Shipping to Central Asia: corridors to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan
In short
Rail, road and combined sea–land connections are options for Central Asia. From China, the Dostyk/Alashankou and Khorgos crossings lead into Kazakhstan; from Europe, the land route or the Middle Corridor via Poti, Baku and Aktau. Destination, cargo and date determine the corridor.
One region, many routes
Central Asia sits between the major corridors. That is both an opportunity and a challenge: there are several routes, each with its own handovers, timetables and requirements.
From China to Central Asia
The main border crossings between China and Kazakhstan are Dostyk/Alashankou and Khorgos. Both are also key handover points for trains to Europe. Our transit data lists Dostyk/Alashankou as a shared border area; from there, European terminals such as Duisburg or Hamburg are reachable in 10–11 days terminal to terminal.
From Europe to Central Asia
- Land route: rail or road via the northern route, depending on cargo and current framework conditions
- Middle Corridor: rail and ferry via Türkiye or Romania, Georgia (Poti, Batumi) and Azerbaijan (Baku) to Aktau in Kazakhstan
- Road: FTL and LTL for flexible pickup and delivery points
| Option | Strength | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Rail | Containers and recurring volumes | Terminal access and timetable must fit |
| Road · FTL/LTL | Flexible pickup and delivery | Border handling affects planning |
| Sea + rail/road | Additional corridor options | More transshipments, more variable transit |
What matters in your request
State origin and destination as precisely as possible, plus cargo, shipment size and date. Additional sea legs, handovers and border handling belong in the overall comparison.
